Food is the day of the people, food to safety first. Yesterday, the Guangzhou consumer Committee and 40 provinces and cities consumer association jointly issued a "national food safety survey report". The report showed that more than 90 percent of consumers often buy food in supermarkets and other large shopping places, but more than 40 percent of consumers do not read food labels and instructions carefully. 79.46% of consumers said that food safety problems "encountered, but less", more than 60% of consumers think food production and processing link is the most prone to problems. After encountering food safety problems, the consumers who choose to turn to the business to ask for return or compensation accounted for the highest proportion, while 19.91% of consumers still "swallow indignities and consider themselves unlucky".

Roadside stalls were considered the most prone to problems

The survey found that 92.89% of consumers usually buy food in supermarkets and other large shopping places, accounting for the highest proportion; More than 50 percent of consumers will choose convenience stores and farmers' wholesale markets, and more than 30 percent of consumers will choose online and retail stores.

At the same time, 86.51% of consumers think that roadside morning market, night market or stall is the most prone to food safety problems, accounting for the highest proportion; This was followed by online stores, which 57.13% of consumers thought were the most prone to food safety problems.

More than 40% of consumers do not read labels carefully

In terms of the consumption habits of the respondents, the survey shows that 44.37% of consumers will check the packaging labels and instructions before buying food, but they do not read them carefully. At the same time, 1.53% of consumers don't watch it at all. In "what information do consumers pay attention to on food packaging", 92.42% of consumers said they would pay attention to the production date and shelf life of food, while more than 40% of consumers did not pay attention to the manufacturer of food, factory address and product composition information; About 60 percent of consumers do not pay attention to food additives, storage conditions, specifications, net content and food safety labeling information.

The survey found that brand and price are the most influential factors when consumers choose food, with 77.04% and 76.77% of respondents affected by these two factors respectively. In addition, due to the special properties of food, 75.97% of the respondents said that the production date and shelf life of food were also an important factor in their choice.

Nearly 80% of consumers have experienced food safety problems

In recent years, the emergence of melamine, gutter oil, leather shoes old yogurt, Sudan red and other incidents made consumers panic and anxiety about food safety. According to the survey results, 79.46 percent of consumers said they have encountered food safety problems, but rarely, another 14.96 percent said they often encountered them, and only 5.56 percent said they had never encountered such problems.

From the aspect of food safety problems, 65.47% of consumers believe that food production and processing are the most prone to safety hazards, and 16.65% of consumers attribute the cause to planting and breeding. In addition, 10.83% and 7.01% of consumers think that catering consumption and wholesale and retail are the most prone to problems. This shows that most consumers are very worried about whether the food production and processing link is safe and hygienic, and the relevant departments should also increase the supervision and punishment of this link.

More than 50% of consumers first look for businesses to return

So, after encountering these food safety problems, how will consumers deal with it? The survey shows that the highest proportion of people who choose to ask for return or compensation is 56.70%, and the second place is 17.81% for those who complain to the administrative department or consumer association. Only 4.29 percent of them directly contacted the manufacturer. This requires food sellers to strictly implement the "first ask responsibility system", do not shirk responsibility, and strive to solve the consumption dispute in this link; The survey also found that 19.91% of consumers would choose to "swallow their pride and admit their misfortune" after encountering problematic food, which requires consumers to strengthen their awareness of rights protection and have the courage to safeguard their rights, so as not to let illegal businesses go unpunished.
